Tale Of A Lone Witch

Sometimes you can’t help but wonder, being different sucks! When you are different, you’re all alone in a crowd; a class apart, you stand alone. Having individualistic opinions only alienates you further, decreed a witch. Free thinking is never to be encouraged, if you have a voice, it must be strangled. If you have an idea, it must be smothered; if you are smarter, you must be subdued.

Being free, being at peace, being perceptive, being all that is out of the ordinary, only makes you an outcast, easy target to ever continuing criticism and accusations. Why are independent people easily decreed as anti-social rebels and miscreants? Why demonise the strong for their audacity to think and act of their free will and not wear a blindfold? The reason lies in the very heart of our society and its norms. People have ever been chained to customs and laws made by an advantageous few, who used fear and weakness of the mass to their advantage, to rule the world, and set rules, which are biased and selfish, which discriminates only to help some people stay on top and be unapologetically unabashed, while others spend their lives in eternal dilemmas, wasting opportunities, ideas and their lives, based on rules that have no humanitarian value at all. Yet when you try help people get out of their rut, and live your life on the path of truth and righteousness, and hence without inhibitions or prejudices, you’re the black sheep; the prodigal angel, wasting her time being arrogant and naïve.

Life is amusing, so are the people around you; and in spite of all the lack of expectations, you find yourself wounded at the hands of people who have no sense. The moment you take flight, they aim for your wings, and right in the lap of tumultuous waves do you fall! Your fault- audacity! Audacity to fly, to be knowledgeable, to be free, to be sure, to know what you want, to be different. How could a mere girl dare to dream, to be different, to take a shot at life on her own terms? The rules are set by the society and there’s no escaping it, you remain forever in the clutches of the circumstances you flee from. Happiness is not for everyone. Society decides who has the right to live, to know, to speak, to be happy, to be healthy, and to be fortunate. The rest can grind the mill, day in day out, or be ready to be burnt at stake, for they who are independent are the witches! Catch the misfits before they turn others into them, before the light inside them shines through, blinding all, enlightening, encouraging the hesitant.

Ages through, it somehow surprisingly slips the mind of all, that “witches” are born, it’s who they are, what their personality is, how they think and see the world,  and how they choose to live. Unsung heroes may be not, but they too never take a step back, never fear, never cringe, never lose faith, and never change their point of view or their beliefs, at the face of adversity. Strength is their innate characteristic. That can’t be taken away, nor can it be demolished. Stake or not, humiliation or not, resistance or not, isolation or not, a witch will always hold the magical secrets to salvation, resilience and supreme strength.
