Year that was…

Sitting in my room, on the last eve of the first decade of the millenium, I had a lot to ponder over… What a year it was and a decade too… I grew, nay, everyone I knew grew  and experienced so many things; the good, the bad and the ugly. From eager to be teens, to the hot blooded 18s, to beyond teenage, this decade gave our lives a new dimension; everything was renewed or restated. All that we knew was certain, was no no more so assuring; all we held to be true werenot always so righteous,  all that we thought was deservingly ours, wasnot always what we got. We grew wiser, stronger, and m sure fonder inspite of embittering events. All of us did. That’s life, you don’t always get exactly what you want, but you get what you need; through pain, you find strength, through darkness light, through sadness, joy; and amongst enemies, a jewel of a friend. We all can relate to this at some point in our lives or the other. We might complain, out of sheer helplessness or desperation, that life is unfair but the truth is far from it. Life was never meant to be a bed of roses…  if u don’t fall, u wont know how to walk tall; if u don’t lose something, u never know its true worth. Life is always what we make out of it, and isnt anything that’s worth having, worth fighting for? Is it gratifying to own something if we donot earn it? There may have been times when I broke down, was low and dreary, and had lost hope, and there were cause to complain; but in that past, out of the events that have caused sorrow, has always been some gain, a friend, or wisdom, or strength. In that past which was witness to the problems, was also the good times which provides courage and determination, hope when lost and a smile when down. Our lives are like roses, they come with the thorns, inseperable from the object of such beauty. We can either complain of the thorns and mar the beauty and innocence of the flower or appreciate its mild fragnance and aknowledge how its beauty makes our heart  fonder and carefree.  Similarly in Life, we can complain about the incidents which we wish werent real, or we can appreciate the fact that we had the good times which brought us joy, in that very past, and be glad for it. We can thus be grateful for that past regardless of anything, as long as we can think of atleast one moment of happiness  and be content or spoil our present too.
The last decade was truly momentuous, and there are loads of memories, of events both personal, and global, and I’m just as thrilled as I was on the last eve of 1999, when I had no idea of what lay ahead. The decade flew by so quickly, yet with a trunkful of memories, and am back where I started- on the threshold of another year and a decade with new experiences in store, which only time can reveal. Looking back, am sure I would hardly believe all that have come to pass, thus its only foolish to have any plans or anticipations, as life hardly plays by our rules. All I know is I do know the rules too and I have to play along as well, which is fine, as I’ve come to realise, all is truly well that ends well and if you havenot really got what you wish for and what you deserve, then its not over yet. And although I have no clue of the future, am sure of one thing, that am really glad to have all the people in my life, who are presently a part of it, as clearly it was meant to be. The friend who I irritate, the roomies whom I drive crazy, the classmates who I freak out, the friends who I pour my heart out to, the friends who I call anytime, the people I fight with but always make up, the people who I contradict and make them wish they never talked to me in the first place, and those who I talk to infrequently; thanks for being a part of my life. If I fail to respond in time, or drive you crazy, or seem bent on picking a fight with, or just plaining annoying, or too busy to stay in touch, or too aloof; it is hardly so. If I seek u out even once, it is because I consider you a friend, and hence I take the initiative and likewise am taking the time to speak out and explain it. The year has been full of ups and downs and there have been times when I have been completely devastated and sick, but the presence of all my friends, old and new have been comforting and the most supportive of all, and am truly glad. It makes me glad to have all of you inspite everything.  Thus my friends, thank you, and hope to make it through the next year and the decade too, together. May you all have a very happy new year!

not exactly what i'd consider a blog entry but its to some extent how i see life and how i take things, hence an entry...
